Sayfullo Saipov drove a rented Home Depot truck onto a pedestrian and cycling pathway in the United States city of New York on Wednesday and is the primary suspect in the death of at least eight people and 15 injured.

Not everything is known about Saipov but this article is what is known so far.

The suspect legally immigrated from Uzbekistan in 2010 to the US state of Florida.

Reports indicate he has a girlfriend and three children, with the last known address in Paterson, New Jersey.

The Home Depot truck that he rented an hour before carrying out the attack from nearby Passaic, also in the state of New Jersey.

Saipov left a note in the truck pledging allegiance to Daesh (IS), and the militant group claimed responsibility shortly after the attack.
