Students are concerned over the lack of information the University of Guelph-Humber has put out regarding details for students regarding a tuition refund and academics. 

In regards to a tuition refund, a report by the Post in October indicated that there would be none from the University of Guelph, and GH has made clear on its updates webpage that it is up to the Ontario government.

“In the past, decisions regarding withdrawals and refunds in the event of a strike have been made by the province, not the university itself,” reads the statement from GH, saying students will be informed once the ministry updates the school.

Several students have also brought up the issue of peers on academic probation to the Post and ask whether, should their grades remain inadequate due to reasons pertaining to the strike,  “would those students be able to continue at Guelph-Humber?”

Students have been instructed to consult with their academic advisor in regards to issues with academics that may spring up as a result of the strike.

For Wednesday, GH 108 Academic Advisors and Career and Placement Coordinators are on a “drop-in” basis from 9 am to 12 pm, with appointments until 4 pm that can be booked online.

Several students have criticized the University of Guelph-Humber administration for their handling of the college union strike that started on Oct 16.

However, the university’s student life group has made clear its dedication to smooth out students’ return to classes this week.

Several events are occurring throughout the week including a BBQ lunch, coffee from 9 to 11 am, and cotton candy at 2 pm all in the North Atrium.

All are invited to the barbeque lunch.
