United States President Donald Trump on Friday claimed to have turned down Time Magazine’s annual Person of the Year award.
In a tweet sent out that evening, Mr Trump said the magazine “had called to say I was probably going to be named ‘Man (Person) of the Year'” but had turned it down because he “would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot.”
Time Magazine made clear in a tweet soon after that the president was “incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year”, explaining that the magazine does not comment on their chosen person until publication on Dec 6.
Trump won the yearly recognition from Time in 2016 following the US presidential election.
The White House has not offered further comment at this time.
