On September 2005 US President Donald Trump while in a conversation with television presenter Billy Bush on an access Hollywood bus, not knowing that their microphones were still recording them during the shoot of an access Hollywood episode he said;
“I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.”
“Grab ’em by the pussy. You can do anything.”
These words are merely two sentences from a long transcription of their conversation that has gone on to shock many across the world.
Those that had rushed to defence labelled it as (locker room talk) others considered it as an admission of guilt to numerous sexual assault allegations spanning as far back as the 1980’s.
The allegations consist of groping, grabbing and kissing without consent, even a rape allegation from his ex-wife Ivana Trump.
While in court over their divorce this event was described in shocking vividness, the term (rape) was used by Ivana in a statement to Trump’s lawyers during the court proceedings.
President Trump has denied all sex allegations as (fake) as is his usual protocol during any controversy surrounding him, many Republican legislators have condemned his actions but then go on to continuously support him in the political realm and work within his cabinet.
Many Trump supporters have harassed the accusers via social media, rape and death threats make up the majority of this harassment.
These actions have not been condemned outright by Trump and at the same time, his supporters continue their harassment of anyone or any organization that even criticizes the President.
The protection of victims in sexual assault allegations is key when conducting an investigation or court proceeding otherwise the victim’s withdrawal due to PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), having to relive the assault through the testimonies
When it comes to high profile cases the media coverage is particularly harmful to the psyche of a victim, sensationalism in mainstream media is commonplace and it has been for decades.
The coverage of sexual assault from the US daytime television show (Fox and Friends) is borderline abusive to alleged victims of assault primarily when it comes to the late Roger Ailes former chairman and CEO of the FNC (Fox News Channel) and President Donald Trump.
However, when it comes to the cases of Harvey Weinstein the Film Producer who can be described as liberal and Democratic Party supporter, they were broadcasting constant stories surrounding the allegations.
As more victims come forward to tell their stories abuse in Hollywood and Washington etc.
In conclusion, the American justice system seems to still be in disarray unable to pursue justice for the rich and powerful.
