British Prince Harry is engaged to girlfriend Meghan Markle, Prince Charles confirmed Monday morning.
The pair got engaged in London earlier this month but it was only known to close family, including Queen Elizabeth II.
On Nov 8 of last year, Prince Harry released a statement confirming a relationship with Suits star and US citizen Markle and asked the media and social media to stop “a wave of abuse and harassment.”
Officials say they will be getting married in the spring of 2018.
The two talked about their engagement in an official Royal Family video posted online Monday, and through an official statement.
It was revealed in their interview that they met through a blind date set up by a third party friend.
Despite only dating for a year and a half, the two stressed it wasn’t a “whirlwind” relationship.
Buckingham Palace said the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh “are delighted for the couple and wish them every happiness.”
The parents of Markle put out a statement saying they are “incredibly happy” for the couple and wished them “a lifetime of happiness”.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said “it has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together”, according to local media.
United Kingdom Prime Minister Theresa May offered the couple her “very warmest congratulations”.
