United States President Donald Trump on Friday accused top officials at the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Justice of bias ahead of the release of a secret Republican memo that reportedly suggests the FBI abused its powers.

Mr. Trump attacked the integrity of his country’s top law enforcement officials, several of whom he appointed himself, saying that they were politicizing the investigations into his 2016 presidential campaign against his presidency and the Republican Party.

Commissioned by the House Intelligence Committee head, Republican Devin Nunes, the private memorandum was pushed through Congress despite Democratic Party opposition to arrive at the White House, where Trump approved a public release.

Democrats say that the file is aimed at undermining Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into allegations of Russian collusion between the 2016 Trump presidential campaign and Moscow.

House Speaker Paul Ryan has said that it was an important document to reveal surveillance powers, and hold agencies accountable. Ryan dismissed the memo’s potential effect on the probe.

“The top Leadership and Investigators of the FBI and the Justice Department have politicized the sacred investigative process in favor of Democrats and against Republicans,” the U.S. president tweeted Friday morning.

Trump explained that the bias was “unthinkable just a short time ago”, writing that “rank [and] file are great people!”
