The Federal Bureau of Investigation was warned last fall about a potential school shooting threat regarding a YouTube account with the same name as Nikolas Cruz, who killed 17 on Wednesday in a United States high school.

YouTube video blogger Ben Bennight noticed a threatening comment on one of his videos that read “Im going to be a professional school shooter”, left by a user with the name “nikolas cruz”, the FBI said in Florida on Thursday.

Bennight, 26, immediately notified the FBI in an email with a screenshot of the comment via an apparently invalid tip line, before following up with a phone call that brought federal agents to his office to carry out an interview in person.

The Mississippi blogger said that the FBI have not contacted him until Wednesday, when a call from the local FBI lead to another interview, according to CNN reporting.

Bennight told CNN he wasn’t paying too much attention to the shooting story but when he noticed the name of the only suspect the first thing he thought of was he hoped the FBI “were at least watching this guy” he had alerted them too.

U.S. President Donald Trump is set to address the nation at 11 a.m. over the Parkland shooting.

End the violence

“The violence has to stop, we cannot lose another child in this country to violence in a school,” Republican Governor Rick Scott said from Parkland on Thursday morning during a press conference with FBI and local police.

“If someone is mentally ill, they shouldn’t have access to a gun,” Mr. Scott explained.

Broward Sheriff Scott Israel said that “now was not the time” to worry about expenses, and urged state citizens to encourage their lawmakers to push more funding in the direction of law enforcement.

The sheriff said all families with those injured have been notified, with officials promoting a Go Fund Me page for crowdfunding relief funds for families of the victims.

Mr. Israel also said there was an armed guard in the school who did not encounter the shooter during the attack.

Officials explained that medical and funeral costs would be completely financially covered for families.

Doctors said two patients are in critical condition at hospital.
