The GH Post presents our newest series: Reading Week in the 6ix.

It’s finally the week Guelph-Humber students have been waiting for, reading week! The GH Post will be posting daily articles about activities going on in Toronto for students to stay occupied during the break.


It’s the first weekend of Reading Week! And instead of being like this:


Here are some cool events you can do today!

DJ Skate Nights

Who said fun can’t be free? Head to Toronto’s “block party on ice” for DJ Skate Nights!

This week’s theme is “Zamunda vs Wakanda.” The DJs will be spinning hot Afro beats in honour of the Marvel superhero film, Black Panther.

This is the event’s last run until December, you don’t want to miss it!

Location:  Harbourfront Centre, Natrel Rink,
235 Queens Quay West, Toronto, Ont.

Drake’s new restaurant, Pick6ix,  just opened and is taking reservations! Montreal-based chef and part-owner, Antonio Park, says the menu will be “celebrating diversity”, with items such as “open-face gyoza”, something like Argentinian empanadas, and “lobster spaghetti à la Montréal,” a dish of butter-poached lobster over veal-beef bolognese and topped with Grana Padano cheese.

The restaurant has 178 seats and a patio fitting 100 more, there will also be a wall of champagne and serve cocktails by Montreal barman Lawrence Picard. Park says he wants to keep prices affordable at around $50 per person.

Yonge Street Warehouse

Looking for good food without breaking the bank? Why not head to the new Yonge Street Warehouse! A DJ plays every night at 8PM.The food is only $5.95, and there are vegetarian and gluten aware dishes! The cocktails are $12.75 or less, and the aesthetics are priceless.

Guelph-Humber student, Michelle Vu says, “the workers are super chill and when you’re with your friends the overall vibe is really laid back.”

Location:  336 Yonge Street, Toronto, Ont.
Hours of Operation: 11AM to 2AM, seven days a week
Audience: Typically 19+
