Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The meeting between the two leaders came at the end of Canadian prime minister’s first official visit to India.
Canada sparked upset earlier in the week after inviting an alleged Sikh extremist to an official dinner, a decision of which Canada had canceled to ease the tensions.
Both Canada and India have denied speculation which says the Canadian Prime Minister has received a tepid reception in India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi traditionally received visiting government leaders at the airport, but he welcomed Prime Minister Trudeau on Twitter, a day before the two leaders were expected to meet.
A raft of agreements reiterating Indo-Canadian ties had been signed after the two leaders met six days after Trudeau arrived in India.
Trudeau’s trip to India has been overwhelmed by criticism that his government is lenient on Sikh extremists.
However, the prime minister argued that the Delhi dinner invitation sent to Jaspal Atwal, who was convicted and later acquitted of trying to murder an Indian minister in 1986, was a mistake.
The dinner was scheduled to be held at the Canadian High Commission on Thursday night.
Modi received Trudeau at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the presidential palace, in Delhi.
They were expected to meet again later on Friday to discuss trade, defense, climate change and cooperation over civil nuclear energy.
