A man shot himself near the North Lawn of the White House on Saturday after firing several rounds, the United States Secret Service said on Saturday.
“The subject approached the vicinity of the North White House fence line and removed a concealed handgun and fired several rounds, none of which appear at this time to have been directed towards the White House,” said the security agency.
The individual suffered a “self-inflicted gunshot wound” outside the presidential residence and died soon after.
Reporters were told to shelter-in-place as the White House went on lockdown with reports of shots being fired near the North Lawn.
U.S. President Donald Trump has been briefed on the situation from his current location in Florida.
