United States President Trump said on Saturday that North Korea has promised not to carry out missile tests due to meetings between Pyongyang and Washington.

Mr. Trump tweeted that the North, formally known as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, “promised not” to conduct further missile tests “through our meetings”, saying he believes they will “honor that commitment”.

South Korean officials announced on Thursday that the DPRK’s leader Kim Jung-un offered to meet the U.S. president, with the White House saying Trump could hold talks with Mr. Kim as early as May.

It has not been made clear what specific meetings Trump was referring to.
