Sonneborn aims to tighten the gun laws in his state by banning the purchase of all semi-automatic rifles in his state.
The 13 year old was one of 2,500 participants in Montpelier’s March for our Lives.
Sonneborn also participated in his school’s anti-gun walkout earlier this month.
Gun-control legislation currently being debated in Vermont would change the minimum age requirement to purchase a firearm from 18 to 21, and would ban the purchase of bump-stocks.
Sonneborn is currently serving as a statehouse page to gain legislative experience before his run.
“Because tomorrow matters” is the teenager’s campaign motto, and his campaign will focus on the economy, education, and healthcare.
