Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that some of his country’s African migrants will be sent to Canada, Italy and Germany under an agreement made with the United Nations refugee agency.
“This is a unique agreement between the U.N. commissioner and the state of Israel, that takes 16,250 people out, takes them out to developed countries like Canada, or Germany and Italy,” Mr. Netanyahu said on Israeli television, reported Reuters.
“That is the commitment the U.N. High Commissioner has made — to organize it and even to fund it.”
There has been no confirmation from Ottawa at this point.
