United States President Donald Trump told aides that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia had to be halted and shut down, The New York Times reported on Tuesday evening.
In early December, Mr. Trump, furious over news reports about a fresh round of subpoenas from the office of the special counsel, said that the probe has to stop.
It also emerged that the U.S. president is considering firing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, sources told CNN.
If Trump makes this move, it would likely be to limit the powers of Mueller who was appointed by the deputy after Jeff Sessions recused himself from anything Russia-related.
