On Thursday, Senate voted to confirm CIA chief Mike Pompeo as secretary of state.
The vote passed 57 – 42 with all republicans present voting to confirm Pompeo.
Only 7 democratic senators voted in favour of Pompeo.
President Trump fired his former secretary of state Rex Tillerson in March. Tillerson and Trump reportedly had many disagreements on policy.
Trump has been pushing for Senate to confirm Pompeo before Friday so he can attend a NATO meeting that day.
In a statement, the president said he trusts Pompeo and that “he always put[s] the interests of America first.”
Trump also tweeted on Wednesday calling those opposing Pompeo as secretary of state “obstructionists” due to a lack of partisanship from democracts.
In May, Pompeo will be attending a meeting with North Korean officials to discuss denuclearization.
Mike Pompeo is the United States’ 70th secretary of state.
