Two main crowdfunding pages for victims of the Toronto van attack victims have reached over a combined $15,000 within the first few days, and several more have raised thousands for individual families.
The first one that pops up when searching for attack pages on GoFundMe online is “#TorontoStrong” which has raised over $5,000 by early Thursday morning.
It is being run by the staff of Balloonery, a same-day balloon delivery service, and the money from donors will be given to Toronto Police “to make sure the money ends up in the rightful hands.”
Second in the list is the less popular but more financially successful “Victims of Yonge Street Van Attack“, which has $11,721 raised of its $100,000 goal.
A popular page sprung up for a victim in critical condition.
Amaresh Tesfamariam, described as a “warm, caring, hilarious and phenomenal nurse who’s presence is a light in the lives of those around her”, is in intensive care at Sunnybrook Hospital near the attack.
