Jerry Chomyn will be retiring as Program Head of Media Studies at the University of Guelph-Humber as of August 31, 2018.
John Walsh, Vice-Provost and Chief Academic Officer of the University of Guelph-Humber issued the news via email on August 9.
Chomyn was a part of the Radio Broadcasting program at Humber College where he was the Director of Broadcast Media and secured the first FM radio license for a college in Toronto. He won Humber’s Innovator of the Year Award, and was inducted into the Radio Humber Hall of Fame.
He then worked in post-secondary education where he served as Media Studies Program Head for eight years. He restructured the program to reflect the theoretical and practical sides of media studies and created relationships with universities in South America and Europe.
Kathy Ullyott has agreed to serve as Acting Program Head, Media Studies, as of August 7, 2018.
