On Monday, the Montreal Canadiens traded captain Max Pacioretty to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for Tomáš Tatar and Nick Suzuki.
Pacioretty joined Montreal in 2010 and was named captain in 2015. His best season with them came 2016-17 when he scored 35 goals and provided 32 assists. There was a trade in place to send him to the Los Angeles Kings during the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, Pacioretty denied it and then changed agents. He then confirmed in late August that he did not discuss contract extensions with the club, hinting that the final year of his contract could be his last year with Montreal. It turns out the 2017-18 season was his final year with the Canadiens, as they sent him to Vegas.
Montreal received left winger Tomáš Tatar who was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in 2009 before being traded to the Golden Knights in February 2018. Tatar was a very consistent player during his time in Detroit, although he only amassed 6 points in 20 games with Vegas. Montreal also received 19-year-old Nick Suzuki who never featured for the Golden Knights.
Max Pacioretty will look to increase his goal and assist tallies with his new club in the upcoming season after putting up less than average numbers this past year.
