Toronto FC star Sebastian Giovinco was called up by the Italian national team on Friday, to compete during the upcoming international break.
Giovinco, 31, has appeared for the national team 23 times and scored one goal. He last played for Italy in 2015, during the Euro 2016 qualifiers. He featured in both of those games during that period; which resulted in wins against Azerbaijan on October 10, and Norway on October 13.
Giovinco flew back to Toronto a day after the Norway game, as they had an important match against the New York Red Bulls that night. Many wondered if he would even be in featured in the roster for that game. Giovinco was on the bench and came into the game in the second half, as he went on to score one of the most memorable goals in Toronto FC history.
Giovinco will be apart of two games during the international break: a friendly against Ukraine in Italy on October 10, and a UEFA Nations League match on October 15 in Poland.
