Jeff Sessions has resigned from his position as the United States’ attorney general.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Twitter that Session’s chief of staff Matthew Whitaker will be taking over Sessions’ former position.
Sessions resignation comes after months of tension between the then-AG and the president after Sessions recused himself from the Russia investigation.
His recusal allowed Robert Mueller, former FBI Director, to take over as special council.
Sessions said he was “honored to serve” his country as Attorney General in his resignation letter.
