University of Guelph-Humber Media Studies student Danya Elsayed is running for one of four seats the university has on the main Guelph campus Senate, she confirmed to The Avro Post on Saturday.

Elsayed is the first senatorial candidate to confirm her candidacy, just a day after nomination applications closed. All candidates will be made public next week.

The third year is not entirely new to campus politics — Elsayed participated in a rally held by former Senate candidate Hannah Derue in November 2017 over the college faculty strike.

The journalism and public relations student also wrote an article for her News Gathering class that was published by GH360 where she found in her reporting that Guelph-Humber is over-crowded.

Elsayed will be answering further questions about her upcoming campaign — the same asked if all candidates — and her answers will be published by The Avro Post.

The rest of the Senate candidates, as well as those running for IGNITE positions, will be made public next week, if not before.
