Both the men’s and women’s indoor soccer teams participated in regional games over the weekend advanced with different results through three games.

The women went undefeated on the day, winning their games against Conestoga, Sault, and Redeemer who were the hosts. Humber grinded out their first victory against the Condors as they won 2-0.

The Hawks then went on to score 11 goals in their next two games, defeating Sault 6-0 and Redeemer 5-0. Midfielder Claudia Piazza scored four goals in those three games, fellow midfielder Giulia Zanardi had two, and striker Rebecca Spratt also had two.

Humber will look to finish first when they play in the OCAA Women’s Indoor Soccer Championship on March 21 and 22 at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan.

The men’s team had a tougher time with their three games as they drew two and won one. Their first game was against Mohawk which ended in a 2-2 tie, as they gave up leads twice. The second game was a complete turnaround from the first, as they won 11-0.

The Hawks third match was against the Redeemer Royals as they rescued a 1-1 draw after being down 1-0 at half which would have eliminated them.

The men’s team will also play at the OCAA Championships in Vaughan on March 21 and 22.
