Canadian midfielders Jonathan Osorio and Jay Chapman scored a goal each in Toronto FC’s 2-0 win against Orlando City SC on Saturday.
Goalkeeper Quentin Westberg started his second straight game for the Reds. Laurent Ciman came into the XI replacing Eriq Zavaleta.
The first chance of the game came in the 4th minute when Auro sent in a high cross to Justin Morrow who headed it just over the bar.
Orlando’s first chance came in the 30th minute when Toronto native and former TFC player Will Johnson tested Westberg with a low and hard shot which he saved.
Toronto had a free kick in the 48th minute which Ciman took and forced a save out of Lions keeper Brian Rowe.
The chances kept coming for TFC, in the 61st minute Rowe had to make another save. This time from other centre back Chris Mavinga who attempted an acrobatic shot from a second phase after a corner.
The first goal of the game came in the 65th minute when Osorio went on a solo run and beat two defenders before slotting it high into the far corner of the net.
Substitute Jay Chapman doubled his side’s lead in the 77th minute right after Ayo Akinola had his shot saved. The ball fell to Alejandro Pozuelo who played a ball over to Chapman as he then controlled it before going five-hole on Rowe.
Westberg had to be called into action yet again in the 89th minute as he denied a header from Dom Dwyer to preserve the clean sheet.
Toronto FC now have 16 points from eight games.
Their next game is against MLS Cup holders Atlanta United FC on Wednesday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
