After a two-way race for president, Monica Khosla beat out Allisa Lim to take the top spot for the next academic year.


By the numbers

About 28.3 per cent of the student population from the campuses that IGNITE administers voted in the 2018 elections, an increase from the approximately 23.5 per cent that filled ballots last year.

In-depth: Guelph-Humber

Overall, 8,489 abstained or voted in the presidential election.

This means that president-designate Monica Khosla won 47.94 per cent of the overall vote and runner-up Allisa Lim took 46.60 per cent.

Overall, 1018 people voted for GH-specific candidates including in the Vice President and Board of Directors races, including abstentions.

Vice President-designate Maheen Nazim took 412 of the ballots, and therefore 40.47 per cent of the vote. Runner-up’s Rose Bonello and Harry Carlisle Swindall together took 56.58 of the ballots, with an extra 2.95 lost to abstentions.

The two board winners, Siery and Lulat, received 405 of the votes together, or 39.78 per cent of the overall GH board vote, shy of the 509 votes that would be needed for 50 per cent. This means that over 50 per cent of voters did not vote for the winners.
